Cashew CR, ridden by Alex Matz (USA) in the Hollow Creek Farm Under 25 Grand Prix Series, claimed the Equis Boutique Best Presented Under 25 Horse Award during the tenth week of competition at the 2017 Winter Equestrian Festival (WEF) in Wellington, FL.

Equis Boutique, a luxury tack and apparel shopping experience, is sponsoring the Best Presented Horse Award at each International Equestrian Federation (FEI) and Under 25 Horse Inspection held throughout the 12-week WEF. The Hollow Creek Farm Under 25 Grand Prix Series concludes during WEF 12 with Equis Boutique naming a final Best Presented Award winner.

The FEI Horse Inspection for CSI-U25 competition during WEF 10 was held Thursday, March 16, at the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center (PBIEC) in Wellington, FL. The FEI Ground Jury, led by Oliver Kennedy (USA), evaluated the appearance and condition of horses jogging for Under 25 competition and selected Cashew CR, a nine-year-old Holsteiner gelding (Cassini II x Udenna), as the Best Presented Under 25 Horse. Cashew CR was prepared for the FEI Horse Inspection by Matz’s groom, Abraham Coronado.

“I am ecstatic,” said Matz, who trains with his parents, 1996 Olympic team silver medalist Michael Matz and fellow top show jumping competitor, D.D. Matz. “Abraham and my other groom, Gail Caputo, do a great job taking care of my horses, and I trust them completely.”

During the winter show season, Matz, who hails from Coatesville, PA, travels between Wellington, FL, and Nashville, TN, where he is a sophomore at Vanderbilt University.

“This is a really nice award for the grooms and the people who put so much effort into caring for these horses,” said 20-year-old Matz. “It is very important to honor that because these people make the competitions function and are caring for the horses twenty-four seven.”

Of winning his first Equis Best Presented Horse Award, Coronado noted, “This means a lot. I love horses, and I do what I do because I enjoy it. The Matzs are great people to work for, and they deserve this award, too.”

In recognition of receiving the Equis Best Presented Under 25 Horse Award, Coronado was presented with a commemorative Best Presented Horse vest, and Matz received a $100 gift certificate to Equis Boutique.
