Adrienne Sternlicht of the United States accomplished a long-time goal by winning the Martha Jolicoeur Leading Lady Rider Award on Saturday, February 8, during week five of the 12-week Winter Equestrian Festival (WEF) in Wellington, FL.

A second-place podium finish in the $137,000 Equinimity WEF Challenge Cup Round 5 riding Just A Gamble earlier in the week set Sternlicht on the path to the Leading Lady award, a WEF title that has eluded her until now. The pair then jumped to a top-ten placing in the $401,000 CSI5* Fidelity Investments® Grand Prix under the lights on Saturday Night to secure the honor.

“There’s so many incredible female riders here [at WEF], so to be in that mix is special for me,” said Sternlicht, 26, who hails from Greenwich, CT. “My week was great and my horse was unbelievable.

“Martha is such a role model in the industry for equestrian business women, and as I start to make my own foothold as a professional she’s someone who’s great to look up to,” she continued. “I am really grateful to her for offering this kind of award.”

In recognition of claiming the Leading Lady title during a prestigious five-star week, Sternlicht was presented with a bottle of champagne, a bouquet of flowers, and a gift certificate for a shopping spree at Hunt, Ltd., by sponsor Martha W. Jolicoeur, who was joined for the presentation by her fiancé, Dr. Stephen Norton.

Throughout WEF, the Martha Jolicoeur Leading Lady Rider Award, given in memory of fellow realtor and horseman Dale Lawler, is presented weekly to the high-score female rider based on performances in the weekly WEF Challenge Cup Series and grand prix events. During the 12th and final week of competition, the Martha Jolicoeur Overall Leading Lady Rider Award will be presented to the female rider who accumulates the most points throughout the season. So far this season, Lillie Keenan and Jessica Springsteen of the United States, as well as Great Britain’s Amanda Derbyshire have won the award and are now joined by Sternlicht in contending for the overall title.

A sponsor and dedicated supporter of horse sport at WEF for many years, 2020 marks Jolicoeur’s 10th season presenting the weekly Leading Lady Rider Award. A former competitor herself, Jolicoeur enjoyed a successful international show jumping career before becoming Florida’s number one Douglas Elliman real estate broker for 2018.
