The Ottawa Welcome Horse Show, the first of three equestrian events held as part of the Ottawa Equestrian Tournaments, will feature a $20,000 Grand Prix when it returns to the nation’s capital from June 20-24, 2018. This represents twice the amount of prize money offered in the inaugural $10,000 Grand Prix in 2017.

The Ottawa Welcome Horse Show, held at Wesley Clover Parks in the heart of Ottawa, provides riders with an opening competition prior to the back-to-back Ottawa National Horse Show and CSI3* Ottawa International Horse Show at the same location from July 11-15 and July 18-22, respectively.

“We introduced the Ottawa Welcome last year as a great way to kick off horse showing in Ottawa earlier in the year,” said Tracy Howard, Events Manager at Wesley Clover Parks. “As the name suggests, it’s a way to welcome those customers that show with us for all three weeks and for them to enjoy an extra week at Wesley Clover Parks with a lot of great class offerings, and now the added prize money as well.”

In addition to the featured $20,000 Grand Prix to be held on Saturday, June 23, the Ottawa Welcome Horse Show offers a full range of hunter and jumper divisions, as well as an “Ottawa Derby Day” on Sunday, June 24. Set on Wesley Clover Parks’ expansive grass grand prix field, the derby day will offer both a $3,000 Canadian Hunter Derby Series (CHDS) Hunter Derby and a $2,000 Pony Hunter Derby.

In partnership with The Jockey Club’s Thoroughbred Incentive Program (TIP), the Ottawa Welcome will also be presenting a High Point Thoroughbred award during the $3,000 CHDS Hunter Derby. Interested participants must include their TIP number with their entry submission.

Tommy Feigel of Stittsville, ON, will design the courses for the week’s jumper competition while hunter courses will be set by Michael Giovinazzo of Waterloo, ON.  U.S.-based judges Joe and Fran Dotoli will preside over the hunter competition.

Conveniently located at the Moodie Drive exit off the 417 highway, Wesley Clover Parks showcases international show jumping competition in the heart of Ottawa.  The uniquely urban location makes the Ottawa Equestrian Tournaments one of the very few Canadian show jumping tournaments to be held inside city limits.
