Aaron Vale (USA) and Prescott, owned by Thinkslikeahorse, proved unbeatable in the $100,000 CaptiveOne Advisors Grand Prix on Saturday, March 11, 2023, during the tenth week of the Winter Spectacular Show Series at World Equestrian Center – Ocala in Ocala, FL. Catsy Cruz (MEX) set an elaborate track for the 26 horse-and-rider combinations in the class. Eight competitors representing three different countries successfully navigated a clear first round to advance to the jump-off. Vale and the 11-year-old Holsteiner gelding were the first pair to return for the jump-off and set an unbeatable time of 33.917 seconds to take home the win.

“From fence one to two I knew [MTM Apple] could make five strides,” explained Vale of the jump-off. “I caught the jump good enough that I think I could have done it but going first it was a little greedy. I held up and did the six. I got a fast seven strides to the next fence, and when I landed, I just went racehorse speed and was able to relax the last stride or two to the vertical. I was aggressive to the combination and caught it perfectly. Prescott is a little weak turning right and leaving right, and he got lucky [at the second to last fence] with the rub. I think he knocked it out with his front legs and knocked it back in with his back legs.”

Rowan Willis (USA) and his own Wellington Grey Goose claimed second-place honors after stopping the clock at 35.684 seconds. Dorothy Douglas (USA) and MTM Pablo, owned by Davenport Farms, rounded out the podium in third place with a time of 37.349 seconds.

Taylor Flury Dominates the $15,000 Buckeye Nutrition Futures Prix

Taylor Flury (USA) and Carrasca Z, owned by Aliboo Farm Inc., dominated the $15,000 Buckeye Nutrition Futures Prix on Saturday, March 11, 2023, in the WEC Grand Arena. Catsy Cruz (MEX) set the course for the 24 competitors where only seven entries managed a first clear round. Flury and the 13-year-old Zangersheide stallion flew through the timers at 41.208 seconds to secure top honors.

“Carrasca Z is my older stallion that has been there and done that,” said Flury of her mount. “He was named after my grandfather, my mom’s dad who passed away. This was the first week my mom has ever been here, so it was pretty special that we won.”

Jessica Phoenix (CAN) piloted Freedom GS, owned by Charlotte Schickedanz, to second place with a time of 41.523. Flury also claimed third place aboard Q7 Munny, owned by Muny Sunk Stables, after stopping the timers at 42.283 seconds.
